McCormick Marks Hispanic Heritage Month with Donation

The Culinary Institute of AmericaImage via WikipediaSparks, MD--McCormick & Company based in Sparks, has presented a donation of $30,000 to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), for a scholarship fund supporting Latino students in the culinary arts. The company presented the donation at a community open house at the institute's San Antonio campus.

The scholarship fund benefits CIA students of Hispanic descent in the Southwest Region, attending the school's San Antonio or Greystone (Napa Valley, CA) campuses. The fund will be disbursed to six students starting with the upcoming semester.

"McCormick is excited to share our passion for flavor with the Latino community through this signature scholarship program," said Valentin Ramirez, Vice President/Managing Director of Hispanic Consumer Markets for McCormick. "We are committed to empowering Hispanics, whose diverse cultures have contributed so much to cuisine here and abroad, to pursue a culinary education at the prestigious CIA."

The scholarship fund was partially supported by community donations, beginning earlier this summer, as part of the McCormick "Asando Sabroso" (Grilling with Flavor) tour. The 30-stop tour offered product samples and flavor ideas to consumers at key Hispanic markets in the Southwest.
